I chose the song Mercedes Benz, by Janis Joplin, as my connection to The Great Gatsby because in the book, Gatsby is completely obsessed with high-class society. The song is an obvious satire of American society, and fits in perfectly with the over-obsessive nature of Gatsby. The song makes fun of everything that Gatsby tries to be, for example, the line "my friends all drive Porches, I must make amends," perfectly coincides with Gatsby's need to impress his upper-crust friends with lavish parties and expensive cars.
